Season 7: The Heartland Route
This season we’re going to share our route and the RV parks we visit for each month. We’ve never done this before (except Alaska) for the simple reason that we do ZERO research or planning when it comes to RV parks! Really.
We also included the total cost of lodging each month. Overall, for the entire 7 months, we averaged $1,264.27 per month. Our budget is $1,500, but we seldom exceed it (on average) due to the irregular dry camping and inexpensive state parks we stay at.
Below is or entire Season 7 route using RV Trip Wizard. This is the best route planning website we’ve used. It has every RV park loaded into the site with pictures making it easy to pick the right RV resort or campground in advance and doesn’t have a limit on destinations like Google Maps. There is a free trial to get started. It does take a bit to learn, but you’ll get the hang it of after your first trip.
*The RV Trip Wizard is an affiliate link at no cost to you. We also use Allstays and Campendium (for free) to find RV parks and plan our trips.
March 2019
Below is the route for March. We drove way too many miles for less than a month considering we didn’t leave Scottsdale until March 8, 2019, but we were invited to speak at RVE Summit and had a deadline. That wasn’t the only deadline we had in March – the third annual family reunion on Marc’s mom’s side was in Arkadelphia, AR which means we had to backtrack over the Mississippi River three times.
Each season has its own theme and this season is all about community. We’re doing KYD Insider meet-ups in each state we visit this season and we’re focusing more on the day to day RV life, family dynamics and RV upgrades.
RV Parks & Campgrounds List for March
We spent a total of $516 on RV parks for March, which is far below average for us, but staying with family helps. We have also found the RV parks in TX, AL, AR tend to be less than other states.
Below is a list of RV parks and campgrounds. The (+) symbol indicates that we enjoyed the RV park and would stay again. The (-) symbol indicates we would not stay there again. No indication means our stay was fine, but we’re indifferent to staying there again or not. This seemed like an easy way to go about it without getting into RV park reviews, which we likely would not keep up with 🙂

April 2019
This month was a departure from the “Heartland” for a couple of reasons. We decided that Tampa, FL was an ideal place to upgrade RV’s due to the amount of inventory Lazy Day’s has in stock and we wanted to experience Disney’s Fort Wilderness. So we made a quick detour from Mississippi to hit Tampa and Orlando before heading back north to Savanah, GA.
We spent $2,308.70 on RV Parks in April and it’s 64% over budget due to Disney’s Fort Wilderness, which accounted for at least $1,200 of our April total. It was actually more considering that Disney charged $6.00 per package received and that totaled over $100 with all the things we sent for the new rig prior to arriving. And then there was the golf cart rental at $60. Was it worth it? Yes, because we make videos about RVing and wanted to share this experience, but I’d only go again if we were with friends. What makes Fort Wilderness so great is the community atmosphere with lots of places and areas to explore. Kids are free range. As expensive as it was, it’s still much less than staying at a hotel nearby and 1,000% less than staying at a Disney Resort.
We did an Insider meet-up in Orlando, Atlanta, and Savannah during the month of April. April was a busy month, too busy and we’re starting to look forward to traveling through TN, KY, MI, WI.

Another under a budget month at $769 with our long stay on the Farm with a KYD Insider. Everywhere we stayed in May was great! All the RV parks listed we would recommend. We also really enjoyed our tour at the Willet Distillery. This is an area we would like to visit again!

July 2019
We spent $819 on RV Parks in July. We excluded the cost of the Mission Hotel because I don’t want to remember! And it would have skewed the numbers. We kept the costs of the Holiday Inn Express because that lodging was due to getting the RV fixed and a typical cost of travel. The Mission Point Hotel is NOT typical for us, but a great time. Because of all the money we saved dry camping in July, we splurged a bit for our family trip.

Another under-budget month at $808.00 due to dry-camping and a reduced rate at Carson’s school. It’s months like this that we have the channel run behind schedule. This way, we’re able to focus on sending Carson to school without missing a Sunday video.

September 2019
This was our most expensive month during SN7 at $2,407 due to hotel cost for the Hydraulic Brake installation and staying mostly at “big rig parks”. We stayed in St. Charles for so long because Trish flew home to help family. We decided to take a pass on St. Louis and focus on work due to a few urgent projects. We’ll be back to St. Louis for a proper visit. Sometimes if we can’t visit a destination with enough time, we’d rather not visit at all.

11/1/19 | Picking up the new RV!! |
Kim Dillon says
First thing I noticed when checking out the positive/ negative was that all stays @ relatives had a negative! OH, WAIT! That was the cost column!
Marc says
Lol. Yes, very misleading! That’s how zero shows up in Excel. Maybe I should have done ‘0
Danny Bryant says
Jackson is in Mississippi, Ms
the Down Town RV park in North Little Rock is one of our favorites we live 30 minutes from there. did you video the Navy there?
Marc says
Yes, tipo that carried over from Excel. Corrected. Thanks. Yes, we stayed there and liked it.
Dave Gossett says
When do you plan on coming to Michigan.
Marc says
Summertime! That’s about as much as we know 🙂
Mark Morrison says
We are heading up there next summer for some RZR riding in the UP. Sounds like a good time for you to look at picking one up for the family (or renting one) and come riding!
laura rey says
Marc…you should at least put “+” next to family stays! 🙂
Marc says
Lol. I should!

Lining the inside of cabinets (outside walls) with the foil keeps temps more even for toiletries, medication and food storage also.

I don’t think you were in Jackson, Michigan, on 3/17 all the way from Texas the day before. You must have meant Mississippi 🙂

Thank you guys so much. This is a big help to put in our list.

If you go towards Mobile AL stay in Theodora, AL at All About Relaxing RV Park. Super nice, big rig pull thru, fabulous “residential bathrooms”, pool, community fire pit. Jimmy & Angela, the owners, are RVers and created a wonderful place. Super in/out off I-10 & quiet. Good Sam discount.

Good video. Great reminder to Know the Height of your rig, all the way to the tallest point sticking up! Yikes!
Sorry that someone took off with your BlackStone Grill. 🙁
Great basketball shots! Amazing how you were able to film from the right, when you were standing on the left! 😉 LOL
Thanks for the quick campground review. Anything helps.

If you are still in Tampa, on way back, up Hwy 75, great RV park in Lake City, FL close to I-10 junction; Lake City RV resort, we had nice pull thru for our 42’ fifth wheel & Dodge Ram 2500 ( w/Good Sam discount $32)-very nice & easy in/out off I-10.

Are you looking at an F450 dully, I have one and love it. It pulls our 40ft. Montana legacy with no problem. Get about 12 miles per gallon. Have a 100 gallon tank in the back and it is automatic into my tank ,full is 150 gallons. Love your videos.

We questioned my deal breaker of a washer and dryer in our 5th when we bought it since you loose storage place. Best thing since you do not need all the stuff since you can do laundry in the comfort of your rig. We camp a bunch close to home at Baldridge creek campground in Cumming Ga about 5 miles from home since I do not have the luxury yet of working from home. Love your info.

I would not have wanted to have been driving behind you when you lost the Blackstone Grill. Sort of like throwing a giant anchor out of the trailer (but without the rope).

If you go through Gulf Shores, AL, you need to stay at Gulf Shores State Park and enjoy Orange Beach. We stayed there a couple of years ago and it was great!
Dawn Mattes says
If you ever come back to the Atlanta area check out Baldridge Creek campground on lake lanier in Cummig, Ga. About 30 miles from downtown Atlanta. It is a army corp park and is 30.00 on the weekend and 24.00 on a weekday. Water and electric 30/50 amp and big sites lake front.

I love watching your videos. Your boys are so Cute!

Are you going to finish posting where you stayed on your heartland tour? It’s nice to see what time of year you were in each location in case we want to visit some of those places in the future. 🙂

We kinda lost track! The Season 7 recap is in a couple weeks. We’ll take a shot at updating it.

We watched the Rig and Truck organization tips tonight. I LOVED Trish’s magenta skirt and top! Where did you get it please?
Shelly Scott says
We love the recaps. They are very helpful. We just did a 9 day turn around to Elkhart, Indiana to pick up our very first fifth wheel!
I agree with Teresa. Please share the brand of the skort you wear Trish. They are perfect for hiking, biking, touring, grocery shopping,… even doing the laundry!

If you ever plan on going to Door County WI. Try camping in Peninsula State Park. You will have to make reservations 11 months ahead. We go every summer for the last 35 years.

In April, you list Timberland Campground. There is one in NH and NJ but not Mississippi. Could it be Timberlake in Brandon (you mention Jackson)? Also, you appreviated Mississippi as MI which is Michigan. Should be MS. Thanks for this fantastic list. I am adding many of these places to my own list.
Marc says
Ops. I’ll update.

I realize this requires avid record keeping in addition to creating your weekly post, but it IS helpful. We leave
Florida May 1 heading to the Utah area, and many of your posts will help with the “where to stay” process. Thanks.
Enjoy the between season break!

Where do you stay around Sedona? I guess technically it is season 7.5 so not in the list, but I would love to know. I only see two parks around the area. Am I missing some BLM or Parks land?

My grandpa was RCAF. Just watched the episode…thank you.

Do you have a spreadsheet with all the campgrounds, prices etc. that is printable?

When do you plan on coming back through Indiana? We just discovered your website and videos not too long ago and love all the insider tips and tricks!

Hi, we just recently found your channel, and we love it! We are trying to watch your episodes from the beginning, but we can’t seem to access them, we can only find one here or there on youtube, and they aren’t in order. We thought we could find them on your website, but there are only a few that we can find. We tried to search on youtube, but since they aren’t all numbered and we don’t know the names, we just got random ones from various seasons. Is there a way to access a whole season in order? We think we are on season 7, having pieced together the rest.
